Welcome
Introduction to the Web3 Changemaker Toolkit
Welcome to the Web3 Changemaker Toolkit!
We're excited that you're here, ready to learn how blockchain technology can be harnessed for social and environmental good. In this toolkit, we've gathered practical insights, case studies, and resources to help you navigate Web3 with confidence and clarity.
Whether you're just starting out or looking to deepen your understanding, this toolkit is here to support your journey.
At Crypto Altruists, we began with the same curiosity and ambition that you bring today. We've seen firsthand how blockchain can drive meaningful change, but we've also witnessed challenges and missteps along the way.
Our hope is that by sharing what we've learned — both the successes and the lessons — we can help you avoid common pitfalls and maximize your positive impact. The Web3 space is still evolving, and while there's immense potential, it's crucial to approach it with a thoughtful, informed perspective.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." – Margaret Mead
Our aim is to provide you with the foundations you need to explore how Web3 can align with your mission. We hope that as you engage with this content, you'll find valuable takeaways that inspire you to consider new possibilities for impact.
The future of social good is being shaped by innovative technologies, and you're part of that conversation by being here.
Let's get started — there's a lot to discover, and we're excited to have you with us.
What is GSR Foundation?
The GSR Foundation backs bold, tech-enabled solutions that reduce exclusion and expand opportunity, especially for communities often left behind by innovation.
Founded in 2022 with support from GSR, a leading crypto market maker, the Foundation operates as an independent grantmaker investing in practical, community-led uses of frontier technology to solve real-world challenges.
Their mission is simple but urgent: ensure that progress includes everyone. Whether it's supporting blockchain for humanitarian aid, AI-powered learning tools, or last-mile internet connectivity, the GSR Foundation works alongside impact-driven organizations to remove barriers, build capacity, and share learning openly.
Rather than open calls, the Foundation takes a proactive approach, seeking out promising partners, offering flexible funding (especially for overhead and salaries), and co-creating lightweight, trust-based grantmaking processes.
The Foundation's early portfolio includes partnerships with UNICEF's CryptoFund, Mercy Corps Ventures, and Silverleaf Academy.
As our first Flagship Partner, the GSR Foundation is helping us expand the Web3 Impact Toolkit to reach more nonprofits and changemakers worldwide.

What is ImpactScope?
ImpactScope helps nonprofits and mission-driven ventures prove what they've achieved — onchain. Whether it's a tree planted, a stove distributed, or kilowatt-hours saved, their platform captures the evidence, verifies the outcome, and turns it into a blockchain record.
By connecting results directly to funding, ImpactScope creates a pathway where credibility unlocks capital, and storytelling is backed by data.
Their early work began with carbon offsetting for crypto emissions. But the team quickly expanded into broader sustainability use cases, building tools to certify and tokenize real-world impact.
Services Offered
ImpactScope helps mission-driven teams prove and fund real-world impact using Web3. Their tools include Proof of Impact NFTs, on-chain outcome bounties (DIOM), and greenwashing detection oracles. They also support NGOs and social enterprises with SDG reporting, carbon tracking, and blockchain integration.
Partners
ImpactScope collaborates with Astar, Hashed Network, and the Web3 Foundation to build impact tooling on Polkadot. They've worked with Siemens on energy-data validation and partner with NGOs and sustainability startups to bring verifiable impact on-chain.
